You have been there I am sure. You are at the park, playground, whatever, and "those" moms are there. They are there with their 1.2 kids each, dressed immaculately, hair done, nails done, tippy cups labeled, looking like they and their spawn have just walked off the modeling runway. Their children are never farther than 1.5 feet away from them because they may have too much fun if mom were actually sitting on the park bench.
You are there in the only pair of jeans that fit you right now, hair in a ponytail, nails that have never been done, with only 3 of your 7 hoodlums. You are stared at in dismay because you actually allow your children to use the play equipment as it has been intended. "Don't run Susie! You might get hurt! Johnny! Get down from the slide. It might be too hot!" Meanwhile yours are not only using the play equipment, but abusing it too.
I would love to actually bring all 7 of my children one of these days and just let them wreak havoc on the playground and the minds of those helicopter parents.

Right there with ya! I can SO relate! I even have relatives who you described, and yep, we are just the "redneck" relatives (whatever!). Cool thing, though, is that our older kids have recently thanked us for letting them "be" kids. Ü
BTW, DJ was just talking about the fun memories when he used to climb the rafters at your home and play in the "swamp" having a sword fight with the cattails.
LOL. ;)
helicopter parents? LOL, I have always danced to my own beat. I found the young or new moms of one or two children are so caught up into making comparisons. When I find a mother like that, I either one up her all the time or I use the shock factor. Really, potty trained at 1? My oldest didn't potty train til he was 10, I just sent him to school with pull ups! I figure as long as he's potty trained for graduation, it's all good! Yeah, they quickly grabbed their kids and left. But, the good side is we got the playground to ourselves. LOL
Love this! My mom was all about letting us be kids and I'm SOOOO grateful! It's helped me to be relaxed with Teya and Brinley and you know, they run through mud puddles and play in dirt but you better believe they have the time of their lives. That's what the bath is for anyway!
LOL!!! That was refreshing to read...I'm not the only one who thinks that way!
As always, you are soooo right! While I am guilty of being OCD about my kids wearing matching clothes in public, I don't understand the idea of following them around the playground to make sure they have fun! And you should SEE some of the outfits I, myself, have been wearing in public lately...they put my former "hat days" to shame. It is so nice being able to relate to someone who seems to have it so together! Thank you!
They very well could be looking at you in envy... I know I would. I need a lesson in relaxing and letting my kids be kids. Even if they get a scratch- or make it so I spend an extra 10 minutes getting stains out I need to just let them be... well, sometimes at least. :)
